STEM Scholarships in Germany | DAAD

The DAAD scholarship program aims to support young academics and future professionals from developing and emerging countries. This scholarship allows them to pursue a Master’s degree in STEM fields (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and engineering) in Germany, enhancing their qualifications and employability.

Who Can Apply?

  • High-achieving students from developing and emerging countries.
  • Applicants must have a first degree recognized in Germany (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) by the application deadline.
  • Those already holding a Master’s degree are ineligible.

What Can Be Funded?

  • A full-time, on-campus Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized university in Germany in a STEM field.
  • The degree program must be tuition-free and have a designated STEM focus.

Duration of Funding

  • Funding is provided for 10 to 24 months, depending on the standard period of study.
  • The scholarship typically starts on 1st October of the following year, or earlier if a German language course is taken beforehand.
  • Academic performance will be assessed after the first year to determine the continuation of the scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Monthly payments of 934 euros
  • Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Annual study allowance of 460 euros
  • Additional benefits may include a rent subsidy and allowances for accompanying family members
  • Support for language courses and tests

Selection Criteria

  • Academic Qualification: Achievements, course of studies, language proficiency, relevant internships, and work experience.
  • Quality of the Study Project: Preparation, choice of degree program, host university, and integration into the academic career path.
  • Potential of the Applicant: Motivation, significance of the stay in Germany, extracurricular commitment, and prospects for future development.

Application Requirements

  • University degree should be within the last 6 years.
  • Must meet the admission requirements for a Master’s degree in Germany.
  • Must apply to a German university and submit admission confirmation before the funding period begins.
  • Cannot have been a resident in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline.
  • Above-average academic performance.
  • Language proficiency (B1 level in German or English, depending on the program’s instruction language).
